Using Trading Cards as Business Cards: Hempzer Seltzer
I had the opportunity to work with Norm, the CEO of Hempzer Seltzer, on a custom trading card project that blended branding, promotion, and functionality into a single piece.

The goal was to create something that could function as a business card and a promotional piece at the same time. Instead of a single static design, the cards were built as a small system that could reflect the brand’s different flavors while still staying cohesive.
A Business Card That Actually Gets Kept
Instead of a traditional business card that disappears into a wallet, these trading cards give people something memorable to hold onto.
Each card connects directly to the Hempzer brand while still working as a personal introduction. The front features Norm, the co founder and CEO, while the back includes contact information, brand messaging, and a QR code that links people directly to the company.
The result is something simple but powerful. A business card that people actually look at, keep, and talk about.
The Goal
Hempzer produces THC infused seltzers designed to be clean, modern, and approachable. There are four distinct flavors, each with its own color and personality. Rather than forcing everything into a single design, the goal was to let each flavor stand on its own while still feeling like part of a cohesive brand system.
The cards needed to work in multiple settings. They had to feel polished enough for introductions and meetings, but also fun and engaging enough to serve as promotional handouts at events.
Building a Flexible Design System
I designed four core trading card designs, one for each Hempzer Seltzer flavor. Each design aligned with the flavor’s color palette and overall branding, so the cards immediately felt connected to the product line.
To avoid the set feeling repetitive, I paired each color with four different images. This created multiple variations within each flavor, while keeping the layout and visual language consistent across the full set.
Instead of one static business card, the result was a small, modular system that could stay visually interesting without losing cohesion.
Why Variations Matter
Using variations within a consistent design does a few important things. It keeps the cards from feeling disposable, encourages collectibility, and gives the brand flexibility when handing them out.
Someone might receive one card or a few different versions, but either way it still feels intentional. The cards don’t blend into the background. They invite a second look and a conversation.
How the Cards Are Used
These cards serve a double purpose. They work as business cards during introductions, but they also function as promotional pieces at events and tastings.
Instead of exchanging contact info and moving on, the cards give people something tangible to associate with the brand. They become a conversation starter rather than a throwaway.

“The process was easy with a quick turnaround. These cards are a great conversation starter and perfect for the events we attend. Seeing how much people enjoy my business card is all the feedback I need.”
Why This Works for Brands
Trading cards are a natural fit for brands that show up in person. Beverage companies, startups, and founders who rely on face-to-face interactions benefit from something that feels personal and memorable.
This approach allows a brand to stay consistent while still having flexibility across flavors, products, or campaigns. It turns a simple touchpoint into part of the brand experience.
