Upper Crust Art Cards: A Pizza-Inspired Series

Upper Crust art cards started as a creative outlet. I wanted to make something playful, nostalgic, and a little ridiculous, without client constraints or expectations.

Pizza felt like the perfect subject. It’s universal, nostalgic, and tied to so many shared memories. Turning it into a trading card series gave me a way to mix illustration, humor, and collectible culture into one format.

If you'd like to see the cards themselves, you can explore the full Upper Crust artist trading card series here.

Upper Crust: Independent Artist Trading Card Series

The Upper Crust series is an ongoing creative trading card project that highlights independent artists through collectible cards.

Each card features original artwork interpreted through a trading card format, blending illustration, pop culture influence, and collectible design. The series explores how trading cards can function as a creative medium, not just a sports or gaming product.

By turning artwork into collectible cards, Upper Crust creates a way for artists to share their work in a format that feels both nostalgic and new.

What Upper Crust Art Cards Is

Upper Crust is an original art card series built around pizza inspired characters, illustrations, and concepts. Each card is designed to stand on its own while still feeling like part of a larger universe.

These aren’t client projects or promotional cards. They’re creative-first pieces meant to be collected, traded, and enjoyed for what they are.

Leaning Into Nostalgia and Humor

Upper Crust pulls from the things I grew up with. Saturday morning cartoons, sticker packs, sketch cards, and the kind of humor that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

The pizza theme gives the series room to be playful without being random. It creates a shared language that feels familiar, even if someone is seeing the cards for the first time.

Collectible by Design

From the beginning, Upper Crust was designed to feel collectible. That means limited runs, intentional layouts, and variations that encourage people to look closer.

The goal isn’t mass production. It’s creating something that feels special and considered, even at a small scale.

Why Creative Projects Matter

Creative projects like Upper Crust influence everything else I do. They’re where ideas get tested, styles evolve, and new formats take shape.

That experimentation directly informs client work, whether it’s layout decisions, packaging ideas, or ways to make trading cards feel more engaging.

More Creative Projects to Come

Upper Crust Art Cards is an ongoing series, and it’s just one example of the kind of creative work I enjoy exploring.

As new ideas take shape, this category will continue to grow with original projects, experiments, and limited releases.
